{ January Picnic }

It has been a year since these pictures were taken. Back when I had Facebook, I posted them, but I thought about them again the other day and remembered what a unique and fun experience we had. I wanted to have them here on my blog.

It was a sunny Sunday morning, and even though it was cold, it seemed like the perfect kind of day to be outside. As I was getting ready for church, the idea came to me to pack a surprise picnic lunch. I scurried around while Tim got ready, smuggling our picnic basket and camera out to the car.

After church, I surprised him with the idea. He loved it! Away we went, heading into the mountains in search of a suitable picnic spot.

After some time, we came upon a sign to an historical site, "Bethany Memorial Church." We turned off the main road onto a dirt road that led to this quaint little church.

I don't think I had ever had a picnic in a graveyard, but it was positively old-fashioned. We roamed over the property, imagining the stories of the congregation that had worshiped there so many years ago.

The church was built in the very early 1900s. The first wedding was held there in 1906.

We sat on a wooden bench and enjoyed our lunch, hearing only the sound of the breeze.

We've remembered that day fondly this past year. I am not a naturally spontaneous person. Tim has helped me with that. Remembering this day makes me want to continue to get better at it. Spontaneity is more difficult now... when getting stuck without spare diapers and changes of clothes would be catastrophic, but it can be so fun. Who knows what other places we can discover. It's amazing what you can find right out your back door!
